don’t wait

don’t fail us,
you, yes you.
we can’t survive
unless you come
join the movement.
children, they are
our future, they will
hold, don’t let go.
tomorrow is bright,
if we let our stars shine.

inspired to write this poem after watching the documentary Waiting for “Superman” (click on the link if you want to see the trailer).

When you see a great teacher, you are seeing a work of art. – Geoffrey Canada

it’s heartbreaking to see children who really want to learn not given a good opportunity to do so or have key steps in their future decided by chance. but in the same respect, it’s inspiring to see teachers and parents who won’t give up. despite the chances, the odds of failure, the past–they don’t let these things dictate their actions. they keep going. they keep progressing.
